Classic interiors with a modern twist for a livable, beautiful home.

Cake+Jelly Design loves creating residential interiors that will stand the test of time by breathing new life into outdated or newly constructed spaces. My style is classic, but never boring. Cool and casual, but never trendy. Clean and modern, but never cold.

Fresh, airy, sophisticated. But most importantly, livable. Because a house isn’t a home if you can’t put your feet up or let your dog snooze on the sofa.

Process

How Cake+Jelly Design creates your dream space!

Working with an interior designer may seem like a luxury – and it is! But it also doesn’t have to be an intimidating or confusing process. I strive to make it enjoyable for my clients, with no surprises.

Experience has shown me that knowledge of standard procedures helps clients feel more comfortable for the duration of the project. And while no project will be exactly the same – here is an outline of what to expect when working with me.

Phase I

Discovery

To start this process efficiently, each new client is asked to fill-out the Cake+Jelly design questionnaire available here.

Upon receipt, I will schedule a complimentary 15-20 minute phone call with you to learn more about the hopes and dreams you have for your space. If you decide to move forward, at this point we will then schedule a site visit to confirm the scope of work needed to be done. This meeting usually lasts about an hour and allows us to discuss any details that we may have missed over the phone. At this time, I will also be taking notes and photos of your space.

Next, you’ll do a little homework and find several inspiration images of spaces that you love to share with me. This will help me get an idea of your personal style.

Next, I will create a Project Proposal that itemizes everything that I will be sourcing and designing (furniture, materials, floor plans, elevations, tile plans, etc.) and calculating the time that we’ve allotted to do so. This will be presented to you as a flat fee and is broken down into two payments, 50% is due before work begins and the balance at the time of the Design Proposal presentation.

Phase II

Design Concept + Presentation

Once we've carefully considered and agreed upon your project's components like overall aesthetic, architectural style, inspiration images and specific likes and dislikes, I then start designing. First with space planning and developing an ideal layout for all furniture, lighting and decor. Next, I'll pull together photographs of individual pieces and materials on PDF design boards to reflect the vibe of the design plan. A key deliverable in this phase is a presentation of these design boards with full furniture/material plans and a working budget of all proposed items.

Phase III

Design Development

After the initial design presentation, there's typically a back-and-forth period for modifications of specific materials or pieces. During this developmental stage, I'll finish finalizing the design and massaging the budget until every corner of your space is accounted for. I'll continue to send you updated floor and furniture plans, design boards and proposals accordingly.

Phase IV

Design Execution

Once you've approved everything I've presented, it's time to get to buying. I'll turn proposals into invoices, collect payment and purchase all materials and products needed for your project.

After ordering is complete, I also facilitate the scheduling of deliveries with my vendors and carriers to ensure all pieces are accounted for and arrive on time. During this phase, I’ll also coordinate with your contractor and relevant trades. After the dust is cleared and packages are delivered comes the best part - installation day! I will style and set everything up just the way we imagined it, including all accessories and art.

Phase V

Completion

During the final wrap-up, a punch list is created to track all the little things at the end of a project that are left outstanding or need attention (such as paint touch-ups or a missing item). We’ll go through each room together and compile the list. I’ll arrange to have each thing on the list addressed as quickly and efficiently as possible.

About Cake+Jelly Design

Cake+Jelly Design is definitely not a cake shop. More a silly nickname… and the realization of a dream.

Kelly spent the first 20 years of her professional life in the advertising biz in Madison, Wisconsin.

Thriving at the intersection of business and creativity, Kelly realized that what she really wanted to do was design. A love that emerged after years of tinkering in her own spaces, devouring magazines like Elle Décor and helping friends and family update their homes.

A Wisconsin-native, Kelly is married to her high-school sweetheart Jason – a.k.a Jake, one-half of “Jake + Kelly”… a.k.a “Cake + Jelly”.  She has two kind and funny kids, plus one wild and crazy Weimaraner.

When not interior designing, you can find Kelly drinking wine, attending a myriad of kids’ sporting events (not always at the same time), breaking a sweat or trying to get off Instagram and into a good book.
